Networking in a Social Media World
"It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams
Who cares if you have 2,000 Facebook "friends" if none of them would show up to your birthday party? What good are 5,000 LinkedIn "connections" if hardly any of them would return a phone call?
It's not about the number of "connections", it is about the quality of the relationships. I have found that the best way to systematically initiate, grow, and foster high value relationships has been through networking.
By networking I don't just mean going to luncheons and happy hours, but joining business organizations, serving on committees, volunteering for causes that are important to people in your market, meeting new found friends for lunch, etc.
So, get out from behind the desk, bring a pack of business cards, and be prepared to shake some hands at this week's events. Even one connection made with the right person through "real world"
networking can be worth more than 100 so called social media "connections."
