Happy 2015!
“Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.”
― Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man
With the fresh page on the calendar, this is a time when people enthusiastically set their goals for the year or perhaps pursue their existing goals with renewed optimism.
However, as the excitement fades and gives way to the slow grind of mundane everyday life, the resolve dissipates and once again another year passes undistinguished.
Why does this happen? Where did the fire in the belly go that burned so brightly with the dawning of a new year?
One issue is that motivation for change should be fueled daily as opposed to being an annual bonfire. Begin every day anew, the mental state inspired by the changing of the calendar year can also be produced daily by the resetting of the clock.
Small daily improvements done consistently will yield dividends over time. Here's to 2015 and reaching your goals.
